A 270 Employee Workforce

The Challenge

With a workforce of 270 employees, the company faced multiple challenges in managing compliance across its various locations, particularly in its EU office. Additionally, the company lacked streamlined operational processes, had inconsistent commercial agreements, and needed strategic oversight on legal matters. The main challenges included:

  • Legal & Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all operations, including those in the EU office, adhered to relevant laws and regulations, including employment law, data protection, and industry-specific regulations.

  • Commercial Agreements: The company lacked a consistent approach to drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial terms, leading to unfavorable agreements that didn’t always protect the company’s interests.

  • Operational Policies & Procedures: The business needed clearer operational policies and procedures, with a focus on consistency and compliance across its offices.

  • Strategic Legal Oversight: There was a need for strategic legal guidance on employment matters, data protection, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that the company could operate smoothly without legal risks.

My Approach

1. Legal & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensuring Compliance: I led efforts to ensure that all business operations, particularly within the EU office, adhered to local and international regulations. This included employment law, data protection (GDPR), and industry-specific requirements.

  • Cross-Border Compliance: I worked closely with legal teams in different jurisdictions to ensure all company practices were compliant, with special attention paid to the legal differences between the EU and other regions.

2. Commercial Terms & Contract Negotiation

  • Review & Drafting of Commercial Terms: I took charge of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements with clients and stakeholders. My goal was to secure favorable terms that protected the company’s interests and minimised risks.

  • Negotiation Strategy: I implemented a more structured approach to negotiations, ensuring that contracts were clear, fair, and aligned with the company’s long-term objectives.

3. Operational Policies & Procedures

  • Policy Development & Enforcement: I led the creation and enforcement of operational policies and procedures across the business. This included developing region-specific policies for the EU office, ensuring compliance with local laws while aligning with international standards.

  • Standardization: I worked to standardise operational practices across the business, improving consistency and operational efficiency across multiple locations.

4. Strategic Legal Advice

  • Employment Law & Data Protection: I provided strategic advice on critical legal matters such as employment law, ensuring compliance with labor regulations, and data protection policies (GDPR). This allowed the business to mitigate legal risks and avoid costly fines.

  • Industry-Specific Regulations: I guided the company through industry-specific regulatory requirements, ensuring that all operational decisions were legally sound and aligned with best practices.

Why It Was Important

The business needed to maintain operational efficiency and mitigate legal risks, especially as it expanded its operations across different jurisdictions. Without a clear strategy for legal oversight, standardised policies, and consistent commercial agreements, the company risked non-compliance, financial loss, and operational inefficiencies.

The Results

By ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, developing standardised policies, and negotiating favourable commercial terms, I helped the Business strengthen its operations, minimise legal risks, and improve efficiency. The company was able to operate confidently across regions, particularly in the EU, and focus on strategic growth while maintaining full compliance with local and international regulations.
